Chen Kun [陈坤] at I.T. Beijing Market launch in Comme des Garçons Homme Plus

comme des garcons homme plus fall winter 2010 / gq.com | chen kun / sina.com

chinese actor chen kun [陈坤] was in beijing recently to attend a launch event. chen appeared to have worn an entire outfit from the comme des garçons homme plus wardrobe. i've never seen a guy with such beautifully permed hair. a serious case of hair envy now.

if you thought chen was rather well dressed for an IT event or a market launch: i.t. beijing market is the offshoot of the hugely successful dover street market in london. the new shop in beijing is hailed as the next generation of comme des garçons's multibrand concept. the 19,000-square-foot emporium blends various comme des garçons lines with other designer brands.

east is really where we should be heading now.

back to chen's outfit for the store launch: i love the busy printed shirt, how it's been subdued within the vest. i don't even mind that the vest is cropped, but i am rather undecided about the daffy duck shoes. but hey, it provided a pop of color and he looked fun. so great look, from the permed hair to the neon colored shoes and everything in between.

Sale shopping at Alexander Mcqueen

last weekend during the frantic and manic boxing day sales, i managed to pick up two items from alexander mcqueen. i've decided not to go for statement pieces, but spending money on items that will give me more wear and mileage over the years. i went for the above cashmere/wool henley top, simple but beautifully made. the fabric is soft as can be. a wardrobe classic/staple, i love.

alexander mcqueen fall winter 2009 / gq.com

the henley top also made a "blink and you might missed it" appearance in the alexander mcqueen fall winter 2009 show.

and i might need that leather torso piece as i appear to have a saggy moob moment above. err, no really no. i also bought the navy blue shirt/sweater 2 in 1 combo piece. i love pieces like that, i actually go round collecting pieces like these. it's great for lazy days, i can put on a t-shirt underneath and head to work. again a really nice piece that will give me lots of mileage over the years.

probably overused the term, but investment pieces these really are.

my outfit for the little shopping weekend: burberry prorsum cashmere/wool khaki military knit, green polo ralph lauren shirt, cheap monday indigo denims, brown christophe lemaire shearling lined boots, purple paul smith scarf and smelling of cire trudon 'ernesto'.

At Korean drama "Dream High" press launch, Bae Yong-Joon [배용준 / 裴勇俊] in Raf Simons and Park Jin-Young [박진영 / 朴軫永] in Rick Owens

ph: sina.com

at yesterday's event to publicise the new korean drama serial "dream high", several actors from the show attended the press conference, including bae yong-joon (above left) and park jin-young (above right). both were dressed in black / white, but with very different styling.

ph: sina.com

bae yong-joon [배용준] opted for a rather formal yet utterly well cut and stylish suit from raf simons fall winter 2010. the beautiful suit appeared to have snap on/off buttons as opposed to traditional round buttons that we are used to. the felt detailing added a different dimension to the suit. really loving the suit on bae yong-joon, i thought it felt age and event appropriate. really nice.

raf simons fall winter 2010 / gq.com

ph: sina.com

fellow cast member park jin-young [박진영] attended the event in a black lambs leather jacket from rick owens fall winter 2010, paired with very boring, unflattering and way too long black trousers. slightly perturbed why he would pair the avant garde coat with the run of the mill trousers.

great coat as it is, but i stand by my opinion that belted coats rarely flatter 99% of the male population. belted coats add bulk to the waistline, i would only suggest them to someone with a smaller waist and broader shoulders. in my opinion, the coat is doing nothing for him.

rick owens fall winter 2010 / gq.com

i like the way the coats are styled on the runway, but really not many are able to carry off the looks with ease. if you are keen, the rick owens leather jacket is current included in the fall winter sale, available online here.

Rugby Ralph Lauren slip ons

ph: rugby ralph lauren

after i posted pics of my recent bargain find, the £14.99 h&m suede slip ons, a reader commented that rugby ralph lauren also has similar styled shoes. in fact, i really love the ones here, and their styling provided great inspiration and ideas on how i might wear mine.

really loving the above red/black checked slippers from rugby ralph lauren. however those retail for perhaps 10 times of what i paid for mine. great styling nonetheless, one day when i am feeling dressy, my red suede shoes will get a spin around town.

Graham Norton on Christmas edition of QI in Dries Van Noten

we had a few friends round for dinner on christmas eve. not sure how we channel surfed but we ended up on stephen fry's special christmas editon of QI. funny man / chatshow host graham norton was a guest on the show, alongside harry potter star daniel radcliffe.

while most of the questions on the show were just too intellectual for me, i was the first to answer "what shirt is graham wearing today". ok i made that question up, but mr norton wore a contrast collar shirt from dries van noten fall winter 2009. i love that shirt, remember seeing it at harvey nichols at knightsbridge london, but left it too late and none left in my size.

at the final segment, graham had to chop off daniel's head which was absolutely hilarious. you can watch the show in it's entirety here.

we usually associate graham norton with flamboyant, showy, feathered and sequined outfits. but i believe that's the stage persona the writers created. outside of that, his style and choice of designers are pretty good i must say. when graham attended jonathan ross's show last year, he wore a christopher kane shirt (even before kane launched his official menswear collection). and i doubt he was styled in above dries van noten shirt since it's from several seasons ago. i remembered seeing him in a neil barrett trench coat for a red carpet event too.

the funny man has great style.

Nick Cheung [张家辉] at Andy Lau's [刘德华] Hong Kong concert in Neil Barrett

andy lau and nick cheung / sina.com

hong kong singer/actor andy lau [刘德华] is currently having a series of concerts at the hong kong coliseum. the actor from "the house of flying daggers" invited nick cheung [张家辉] to be his guest for his concert on christmas eve. nick looked appropriately casual and stylish in a 3-piece ensemble with black leather trainers.

nick cheung / sina.com

i am loving nick's blazer, which i believed to be from neil barrett fall winter 2010. the crumpled effect is a signature of neil barrett's collections. i would usually pick slim fit trousers, but i am loving nick's wide legged choice. great style.

i attended neil's show back in january 2010, and happened to snap above pic. kinda miss the days when i was in milan observing the shows and proceedings. missing it a little.

My new shoes: H&M red suede slip ons

even i shocked myself by buying the shoes. it's part medieval, part costume, part party and partly because it was the last pair on the shelf and as always it's in my size and partly because there wasn't a price tag and partly they checked and said it was... £14.99.

£14.99 for a bit of fun, why not. and it didn't look too bad with my topman navy trousers, brown gucci checked shirt and khaki balenciaga puffer.

i was really surprised by the price (they said it was full retail), as the shoes were rather well made. nice red suede, reasonable stitching and with nice comfy gold colored quilted lining. and before someone yells "bedroom slippers", the shoes are finished with really nice leather soles:

the slip ons are part of h&m's fall winter 2010 party range, along with the fun looking / costume-y tophat. i didn't see that hat, else i would have taken it too!

quite possibly my last pair of shoes for 2010. fun and frivoulous! now can someone organise a party so i can wear my flaming new shoes...

p/s: got a few emails and comments about the trousers above. it's from topman, available online here: http://tinyurl.com/TMnavytrousers

赵文卓 in burberry prorsum for esquire china / sina.com

in december's edition of esquire china, chinese actor zhao wen zhuo [赵文卓] was styled in several burberry prorsum pieces. i love the whole mood of the shoot, the colors and styling stayed true to zhao's epic/martial arts movies background. doesn't these look like movie stills? love everything about it.

GAP Toggle Hoodie Wool Coat

day 2 of my christmas shopping, and while browsing at gap i (again) deviated from shopping for others and tried on the wool toggle hooded coat. the camel color is right on trend, and i have a thing for toggle coats, i even did a quick poll on it previously.

i like the coat, but then i have coats to last me for the next 10 winters. and then it's back to shopping for others (but i did harbour the thought of getting this for my housemate but i think the coat will overwhelm him, and he could then give it to me instead...)

yay, nay? the wool toggle coat is also available online here.

Joe Casely-Hayford for John Lewis

when i last featured the gorgeous joe casely-hayford for john lewis "mentor" oxford shoes, i mentioned that i will venture in store to have a closer look. taking a break from the madness of christmas shopping at oxford street yesterday, i went to john lewis and tried on the shoes.

the shoes fit very well, and i really like the punchholes effect on the toecap. i've previously mentioned that the top part of the shoe is made from 1 piece of leather, it is really nice to be able to see and appreciate the construction up close. and how cosmic, reader 'kowang' tweeted that he bought the same shoes on the same day after seeing the shoes on my previous blog post!

love the shoes, i'm going to get so much wear out of it. i also checked out the other pieces from the special collection.

one of my favourites is the field jacket above. made by barbour and designed by joe casely-hayford, the jacket fits really well and snug. i was told that it was more tailored fit, and about 10cm taken away from the sides as compared to a classic barbour jacket. i really like it, it fitted me really well, the jacket is thick and substantial. particularly love the double collar layered look.

though it's a smaller/crop fit, i actually fit nicely into size "s" above, and me being a classic eu48.

corduroy collar, plaid lining, double collars, details galore!

one more look. yay nay?

i also tried the long wool 'pallas' quilted field coat, which i don't think i did it justice. the coat has a beautiful quilted detailing (not apparent in this pic...) and cord collars which i love.

love the padded interior. it's a classic coat made interesting with the quilted detailing. i like it. i think it's great for work and weekend play.

and i couldn't resist trying on the most expensive item, and also my absolute favourite from the collection: the olive quilted 'alcade' leather jacket. i absolutely love the color, it's just going to get better with age. so glad i tried it on, the leather feels buttery soft. i tried size "s" and it fits really nicely.

i think the olive leather jacket makes a great investment piece. i am seriously tempted... and my outfit for the day: distressed denim shirt from h&m, new navy skinny trousers from topman and well worn converse trainers.

and one last try: the wool/cashmere scarf made by the tartan experts lochcarron of selkirk in scotland. love my new shoes, and really loving the special collection. i mentioned it previously, and i stand by my statement after seeing and feeling the pieces up close: there's nothing mass market about this designer x high street collaboration. i think it's a commendable effort by a high street chain, bringing us great design at lower prices.
