Out and about...

bank holiday monday, went out to get a haircut in my uniqlo shirt, diesel black gold denims, converse sneakers and smelling of cire trudon "ernesto".

sunny day it was, so i wore my favourite tom ford "cary" sunnies.

i probably should rotate my shoes more often, but i really love my well worn converse. and it went with my simple non fuss outfit, so all good.

i rarely go out without a bag. i need my camera, notebook, wallet, coin pouch, house keys with me most times. i didn't even bring the ipad with me, but it would fit. again i have lots of bags, but i seem to always take the above nondescript indigo denim bag with me. best thing: the bag came free at one of the press days.

ah the simple days.

Josep Guardiola at UEFA Champions League with Chopard Mille Miglia

josep guardiola / ph: lluis gene, afp, getty images

i must admit, i am not a football man. i find it difficult sitting through a 90mins game. i do watch some of the big matches from time to time, like the world cup finals last summer and last saturday's UEFA champions league. thing is, we went to bicester village (outlet haven) in the morning, but left at around 4pm so my friend could beat the expected traffic when driving back to london. with nothing much else planned, i ended up watching the match with my housemate at home.

it made for an entertaining game, as fc barcelona's coach josep guardiola was rather interesting to watch. i've not seen a football club manager who dresses pretty well and moved with such swagger (well partly because i hardly watch any football). love that well fitted and slim cut black suit, which was very flattering.

josep guardiola / ph: laurence griffiths, getty images

on and off i caught glimpses of his timepiece, and i was very intrigued what was his watch choice. i am always interested to see what shoes and timepieces other guys wear. i wished he picked another pair of shoes on this occasion, but loving the masculine and sporty timepiece.

ph: UEFA/handout via getty images

turns out, mr. guardiola wore the same watch on several other occasions. at the press conference before the match finals, we caught a better glimpse of the black colored timepiece with black rubber tyre-like strap. i was very very intrigued.

the above pic from a news conference back in april showed a little more detail of his watch. much digging later, i am pretty confident to say he wore a chopard mille miglia GT XL chrono speed black watch. the watch featured a natural black rubber strap reflecting the 1960s dunlop racing tyre-tread motif. the case is also made from scratch resistant blackened steel.

and, the watch is limited to 1,000 pieces worldwide. i think it's a really beautiful watch, matches the sportsman in him perfectly.

Hentsch Man Summer Pop-up Store

last thursday i met up with blogger around town, miss disneyrollergirl, and attended the launch of hentsch man's summer pop up store. i read about their pop up store at mayfair last year but didn't get the chance to visit. the current summer store is at no. 8 newburgh street, in a quaint little alley behind the hustle and bustle of carnaby street.

especially loving the espadrilles and colorful panama hats. i love a shop with dashes of colors. and in their own introduction, they want a hentsch man to look chic, but not like they’ve fallen out of a catalogue. absolutely delightful, i think i might have to head back for one of those panama hats.

Flashback to Q Awards 2009: Matt Bellamy of Muse in Number N(ine) x Charles Peterson print blazer

muse at Q awards 2009 / ph: dave m. benett, getty images

i remembered back in 2009, i saw matt bellamy from muse in the above suit at Q awards in london. i was very intrigued, but unable to identify where the suit was from. close up of the suit showed prints of people crowd surfing at a concert, so i assumed it was a scene at one of their concerts and that the suit was custom made.

london's ln-cc recently curated a very good selection of arvhival pieces from number n(ine). included within the collection, is this amazing jacket which i recognise instantly:

the blazer featured repeated prints from a photo by famed american photographer charles peterson. i thought it was really really cool. not an everyday blazer, but art piece in itself. really beautiful.

endfest, kitsap, WA, 1991 by charles peterson

the stunning blazer, along with a great selection of number n(ine) archival pieces, are available online from ln-cc.com. l00o00ve.

Caleb Followill at Mount Street London in Burberry Brit

caleb followill and lily aldridge / ph: flynet via justjared

fast becoming my latest style crush, caleb followill was pictured at london's mount street on wednesday with his missus, lily aldridge. the 'kings of leon' band member kept it simple and effortlessly cool in a plaid shirt from burberry brit, accessorised with a pair of persol sunglasses. the rolled up sleeves and just the right amount of front buttons undone. this sex is on fire.

caleb's burberry brit shirt in blue is available online here, and a similar pair of sunnies from persol is also available online from mrporter.com. especially loving the small and chic button down collars. i really love his effortless style.

Common Projects White Achilles Low sneakers

monsieur christian louboutin appeared on irish tv last week to talk about his upcoming fall winter 2011 collection. on the show, he introduced a simple pair of black pumps, quite literally black patent leather devoid of any bells or whistles and with signature red soles. monsieur louboutin explained that the classic black pumps were actually one of the most difficult shoes to make. he compared that to a naked face, where quite simply there is nowhere to hide any flaws.

if we can find an equivalent to womenswear's classic black pumps, i think it will be a pair of classic white sneakers. every guy should have a pair as standard, clean and free of scuff marks. one of my favourites is the white archilles sneakers from common projects. such a classic, and being obsessed with typography, hot stamping and numbers (hell00 my blog is named after numbers!), the gold stamped numbers on the shoes are just perfect.

definitely one of my all time favourite shoes. i would love to tell you that's me and my shoes in those pics, sadly no. anyway, the common projects archilles sneakers are available online from chatsubo.

Olly Murs performs at Hammersmith Apollo London in YSL and Grenson

olly murs at apollo hammersmith / ph: matt kent, getty images

olly murs, one of the uk x-factor alumni, held a concert at the london hammersmith apollo on tuesday evening. i must admit i wasn't a big fan of his music or style when he was in the competition, but fair play to him: i think he worked really hard to realise his dreams of cutting an album. and no mean feat to hold a solo concert too. for this event, olly wore the double layered top from YSL yves saint laurent.

it is also the same top that ballet dancer benjamin millipied wore two weeks back on the streets of new york, filming scenes for the upcoming YSL fragrance campaign.

olly murs at apollo hammersmith / ph: matt kent, getty images

i love olly's dressing here, the pairing of the dark blazer with sand colored slim fit trousers. i am beginning to think the trousers are from topman as they resemble the pair that i've got. and definitely loving the white ysl top, i would like to have one please.

i am also pretty sure he wore a pair of navy suede punched brogues from british shoe maker, grenson. but much as i love the whole ensemble, it's a little "made in chelsea" than "apollo hammersmith solo gig" if you get my drift.

i really love these double layered tops from ysl. it creates the layered look without much fuss. these cashmere blend henley tops are available online from matchesfashion.com and mrporter.com.

the navy suede brogues with red/orange rubber soles from grenson is also available online from matchesfashion.com.

am loving this look.

Will.i.am and Trey Songz at 2011 Billboard Music Awards in Emporio Armani

will.i.am / ph: ethan miller, getty images for ABC | emporio armani spring summer 2011

i never thought will.i.am would be an emporio armani kind of guy, but he wore one of the camouflage jackets from the spring summer 2011 collection. the jacket is similar to the one takeshi kaneshiro wore at the cannes awards a few days ago, and both featured detachable sleeves at elbow point. i actually quite like will.i.am's styling, loving the pop of color from his pink t-shirt.

trey songz / ph: isaac brekken, getty images | emporio armani spring summer 2011

i admit i am unsure, but trey songz jacket looked very similar to that of emporio armani's spring summer 2011. i will be very surprised if it's not, as it's just too close to comfort. but i love it on trey, wearing the whole suit would be too severe but loving the fit and styling here. especially loving the peek of the watch.

Joe Jonas at Billboard Music Awards pre-party in Balmain

joe jonas / ph: judy eddy, wenn.com via justjaredjr | balmain homme spring summer 2011

joe jonas attended a pre billboard music awards party in las vegas on sunday in one of my favourite jackets from balmain homme spring summer 2011. i even included this jacket on my wishlist section on the right side of the blog. however i tried to like it, but i really can't. i really do not like those jeans, nor sneakers nor the rolled up sleeves. mr jonas made it into a non-event for me.

and i am really sad, as i really love this jacket. what do you think?

Topman Teenage Cancer Trust black doodle 50's classic sunglasses

was supposed to shop for a bow tie last weekend, but i ended up buying four pairs of shorts, a t-shirt, a baseball cap and a pair of shades. basically things for my upcoming holiday. the shades were released last month as part of a charity project, so i am quite glad i managed to find one still. it only retails for £16, but £5 from every sale go towards the teenage cancer trust. it fits me just fine, and it's great for the upcoming beach holiday.

great initiative, you can get yours online here from topman.com.

rock your shades!

Monsieur Jean Yves bow ties

the wonders of social media never cease. i first mentioned on twitter that i needed a bow tie for my friend's upcoming wedding in june. what followed was a wave of enthusiastic recommendations, and if not for the kind suggestions i would not have found out about the utterly gorgeous lace bow ties from marwood london. reader antoine also left a comment, asking me to check out monsieur jean yves, a parisian designer who specialises in bow ties. and i am so grateful for that, as i am totally smitten with all his gorgeous and romantic creations.

my absolute favourite is the distressed gold bow tie above. so so beautiful, however that was from his previous collections which i don't think is available anymore.

another gorgeous one is the above bow tie made from feathers. imagine that against a crisp white shirt. black tie doesn't necessary mean black colored ties, i wish more guys on the red carpet would opt for these amazing creations.

well if we insist on black colored ties, this my friends is a serious knock out. i l00o00ve!

especially loving that it's 3 pieces layered together like petals, creating a 3 dimensional effect. oh how i very much need one of those now. thank you antoine for the great recommendation. more at http://www.monsieurjeanyves.com/.

Ronnie Wood at 64th Annual Cannes Film Festival in Roberto Cavalli and Jimmy Choo

ronnie wood in cannes / ph: vittorio zunino celotto, getty images, jimmy choo

it's all happening in cannes right now. roberto cavalli opened a store in cannes on wednesday, and rolling stones member ronnie wood attended the launch party with girlfriend ana araujo, both dressed in roberto cavalli. i really love the belt on the runway model, wished ronnie had worn that too. what i was surprised at, was ronnie's shoe choice: he wore a pair of paisley slip-ons from jimmy choo's upcoming menswear collection.

ronnie wood in cannes / ph: vittorio zunino celotto, getty images, jimmy choo

the shoes were called "porno paisley". i always wondered why, until i've seen the close up of the shoes: it's paisley with a twist as there were several playboy bunny types hidden within the motifs! very interesting shoes, but i'm not exactly sure of the pairing with the tiger print shirt.

i'm rather excited about jimmy choo's upcoming menswear collection. mark wahlberg first wore a pair of jimmy choo shoes to this year's oscars, and i believe ronnie wood is the second to be seen with shoes from this collection.

Jude Law at 2011 Cannes Film Festival in Kolor and Golden Goose

jude law at cannes film festival 2011 / ph: flynet via justjared

jude law is currently still in cannes, serving as one of the jurors for the 2011 cannes film festival. he was spotted in casual attire yesterday, including the greyish green jacket from japanese label kolor, and a pair of sneakers from golden goose which i really really love. he finished off the look in a slightly grumpy mood. smile jude smile, you look great!

whilst most artistes would avoid repeating their outfits, especially during such an event as the cannes film festival, jude kept it real. we've previously seen him in this jacket at heathrow airport, as well as day one of the current film festival.

jude law at cannes film festival 2011 / ph: flynet via justjared

i really like his sneakers. slightly distressed, accented with golden goose's signature blue star. i want one of those! seriously loving jude's effortless style.

the khaki colored version of jude's sneakers is available online from thecorner.com

but i really really love this pair in black from aloharag.com.

Bow ties

yesterday i mentioned that i will be heading towards spain for a week of (hopefully) sunny vacation in june. besides looking for swim/beach shorts, i am also on the lookout for bow ties. for the beach? course not. it's a friend's wedding in three weeks time, and i would like to wear a bow tie for the event. unfortunately i'm not the dandy kind who wears bow ties on weekends or during fashion week, but i thought it'll be nice if there are special occasions for it.

mentioned it on twitter yesterday, and there were several really good recommendations. dal chodha suggested marwood, a stunning debut collection of accessories from designer becky french. i really really love the white lace bow ties, it's so delicately beautiful it will be perfect against my attire choice of a crisp white shirt and navy dinner jacket from h&m x lanvin.

the bow ties retail for £80, available from london's bstore or at marwoodlondon.co.uk.

if the lace bow ties from marwood teaches me anything, it'll be texture. wool is not usually a material that i would associate with bow ties, but these glorious handmade woven wool ones from savile row's e tautz are a close contender. i think the burst of summery colors and wool texture will work really well with my light wool navy jacket. my only problem: it comes untied. ermm i need to learn how to tie them up *sheepish*

£95 from e tautz, i love.

new to mr porter this week is j crew's selvedge chambray bow tie. especially loving the exposed selvedge edge and slight vintage feel about it. however, it might be a little too casual for this occasion. £49 from mr porter.

for slightly quirky choices: i really love these ceramic bow ties from cor sine labe doli. the matt black ceramic tie will blend in nicely, until one looks at it closely. great conversation piece this will be. i really like the glossy ceramic bow with a slight gold tip. quirky but doesn't quite stick out like a sore thumb.

£137 from luisa via roma.

can't really talk about bow ties without mentioning french designer alexis mabille. the hand made silk and velvet bow tie is so luxurious, paired with the dinner jacket it simply is sumptuous:

the perfect size, perfect color. £129 from couture lab.

thing is, i don't really wear bow ties on normal days. so i won't really get much wear out of it if i spend lots of money on the tie. so getting one from the highstreet is actually very appealing to me right now. i always see nice bow ties whenever i am at topman's oxford circus flagship, so i might just pop in this weekend to see if i can pick one up.

loving the above burgundy skinny dot bow tie from their online shop. £10 from topman.com.

and if all else fails (ie i am too lazy to venture out to the shops), i can go pluck this from my garden then. the beautiful clip on bow tie from jacobs by marc jacobs for marc by marc jacobs in collaboration with marc jacobs for marc by marc jacobs (ie the marc jacobs special range). sorted.

the all important question: which bow tie do you prefer?
