Kim Jones for Louis Vuitton Spring Summer 2012

i was away on holidays last week and didn't really catch up on the spring summer 2012 shows. i did however check out kim jones's first collection for louis vuitton menswear, and i really really like it. the accessories were spot on, and i love the whole traveller/voyage theme running through the show. i kind of decided that i want the above varsity jacket, classic yet looking luxurious at the same time. i also want the below large quilted messenger bag. yes there were beautiful brown leather bags with the beautiful "V" graphic print, but the bag below totally stole my heart.

i do this at the start of every season, to make a practical #wishlist of what i would like to get. however sometimes when the items arrive in stores seven months later, that feeling just isn't the same anymore. i hope this won't be the case when they arrive in stores, which i predict to be feb/mar 2012.

#HolidaySnaps 04 - Orlebar Brown geometric print shorts

pardon the slightly pale legs which didn't see much sun, the picture must be taken on the first day of the trip. it does get better! i packed a different pair of shorts for each day, and this geometric print one from orlebar brown is by far my favourite. i went swimming at the beach, and also off to dinner in them. it is amazingly versatile, stylish and flattering. in fact, i wore them on the flight back to london too, city shorts these can be.

i love them. if there is one item you should invest in this summer, i would recommend these shorts. you can find the orlebar brown geometric print shorts online here.

(p/s: i wore the "bulldog", which is the mid length shorts).

A little sale shopping...

i had some time off from work yesterday, and it so happened to be the first day of the harvey nichols summer sale in london. well i leave you to decide if i planned my leave that way. i bought two items from the sale, both from alexander mcqueen fall winter 2010. the above wool jacket was the only piece on the rail, and i am so happy that it fitted me perfectly.

the jacket featured chain mail prints, which was featured in several pieces from the fall winter 2010 show. my casual pair of chinos probably doesn't go with the gorgeous jacket, i'll most likely wear it with a smarter pair of trousers. i also bought a cashmere trompe-l'œil knitwear from the same collection. as both were from two seasons ago, they were actually further reduced, coupled with the extra 10% off for the first four days of sale, both pieces were about 75% off. great reductions is one thing, i really do love, and feel there's longevity in both pieces.

so it's a great buy (i do anything to convince myself).

alexander mcqueen fall winter 2010 / gq.com

even more poignant, as this was lee mcqueen's very last menswear collection.

i then went from knightsbridge to nottinghill for a little business visit. since matchesfashion is around the corner, i decided to drop in for a look see too. and when they laid out the shoes nicely like that, i feel very obligated to try them on. i was deciding between the classic lanvin metallic toe-cap sneakers, or the somewhat sportier balenciaga hi-tops. i decided to go with first instinct, and picked the balenciaga shoes.

those were my blue suede pierre hardy shoes in the background...

nice? these were actually very light and comfortable. it was the first shoe i picked up, so i trusted my instinct. the shoes are also available online at matchesfashion.com, as well as mrporter.com.

speaking of mrporter.com, their international sales start today!!

clickerty clickerty click! happy sale shopping!

COACH MENSWEAR FALL WINTER 2011

i dropped by coach's menwear fall winter 2011 presentation yesterday evening. i was very excited to see the range up close, because after all these years they've finally decided to come back to the uk. they opened their first standalone store at london's westfield this year, and a new flagship will soon open in august, more on that later.

the bags and accessories featured had this classic and old school feel about it. my personal favourite is the above leather weekend travel bag. simple and discreet with a subtle gold stamping on the front. pricing is also very competitive, the bag should retail for about £600+, which is pretty amazing really.

something that i will definitely get, is the above leather wash bags. these are unbelievably smooshy and generous in proportions, which will be perfect as my current travel wash bag is bursting at it's seams. it's such a classic, and again i really like the subtle gold stamping. i really can't wait to get my hands on these!

along the themes of travel, is this zipped pouch with different compartments for uses as specified with, again my favourite gold stamping. i've seen anya hindmarch accessories in a similar nature, but not really seen any menswear pieces done in the same way.

one of my favourites is the above travel wallet with 2 internal pieces. enough spaces for cards, cards, currencies and more cards. the beautiful thing is, everything compacts into this small nifty cognac colored wallet, which will age so beautifully with time.

and yes, those are leather paper weights!

there were also textured leather in some of their accessories, which brings us to this grey leather bag which will be an exclusive item for the new store that's opening in central london:

totes fabulous? this is one of a few bags that will be exclusive to their new store at 41 new bond street. i am so glad that i don't have to travel all the way to westfield anymore! if you are wondering where 41 new bond street is, it's the current location occupied by mulberry. so where is mulberry moving to??

i believe the limited edition bags exclusive to the new bond street store will also carry the above tag, hot stamped in gold with the address of the store. coincidentally, or with rather good planning, coach was established in 1941. so the number 41 lends an even bigger significance to the new store at new bond street.

some of the new products featured, include reversible bags like the ones above. i like.

last but not least, shoes! love these classic suede boots. am really looking forward to visiting their new central london store at 41 new bond street soon. i hear jerusalem bells are ringing, roman cavalry choirs are singing, and a certain mrs martin will be opening the new store. hmmm i wonder who that could be.

TOBEY MAGUIRE FOR PRADA MENSWEAR FALL WINTER 2011

prada unveiled their new fall winter 2011 menswear campaign today. ex-spiderman star tobey maguire was featured in the campaign. casting wise, i really like it but also thought it was a little strange. mr. maguire is much more in line with prada's image than say, the skinny pale models that graced their campaigns for several seasons. strange, because i am not feeling anything to be honest. it's like a non-event really. there were quite a few interesting pieces from this collection, but not sure why the rather simple styling above.

i do love the photography though. the soft focus and subtle light leaks which i've been trying to master for, like forever. no surprise that these were lensed by one of my favourite photographers, mr david sims.

so tell me, what do you think of this campaign?

MARCH LA.B WATCH AM1 IN MEMOGOLD AND GREY STINGRAY STRAP

if you've been reading this blog long enough, you would have known that i love shoes, and then watches. when i meet people, i always look at what shoes they are wearing. and during conversations, i like to see what timepieces they are wearing. and when i prepare and get dressed, i first thing i think about is what shoes to wear (depending on the temperamental british weather), then what socks to match the shoes, then what watch to match the shoes. silly probably, but i like to wear a black strapped watch to go with black shoes and socks, and brown strapped watches to go with non-black shoes. metallic ones for lazy rebellious days. if you want to be mad, might as well have a method for it.

and when you've reached a certain age, having tons of clothes and shoes probably doesn't matter much anymore (ok i speak for myself). i subscribe to the mantra of "buying less, but buying better". probably explains why i haven't really been shopping much these days, but i am willing to pay more than what i usually would, for something a little more special. hence the upcoming summer sales intimidate me. everyone loves a bargain, but i am just human and often might succumb to the temptation of something on sale. but do i really like it, or am i excited because it's 50% off? i know it's a slap in the face, considering i have two huge sales banners on the right.

this is also a good time to browse and plan my purchases/investments for the upcoming season. you might say it's silly to buy a winter coat when it's the blazing summer now. but wait till it gets cold, and all the sizes and styles that you like will most likely be sold. and it is while browsing the new collections that i come across the above beautiful beautiful march la.b watch. i actually tell myself not to get anymore quartz watches, again coming back to the "buy less buy better" mantra. this watch is so aesthetically beautiful and perfect in my eyes, i love the gold plated crown paired with the gorgeous stingray strap. in fact i love everything about it, except that it's powered by a battery. and i start to question myself if my argument is still valid.

so i am back to where i started. i am still non the wiser. the watch is from their spring summer 2011 collection. i doubt watches will go on sale, but if ever you notice it does, scream shout tweet and do everything to grab my attention please.
