on sunday night's x-factor UK results show, gary barlow wore a really nice satin lapel tuxedo jacket from dsquared fall winter 2011. seems that the stylists are doing the contrasting lapel thing most weeks, but i really love it. it's a subtle way to make evening wear more fun. from the runway picture, it appears that the satin lapel extends all the way inwards, very sleek.

the jacket also comes in velvet, which i thought would look great for tv, and i would have picked that for gary. the dsquared satin lapel jacket is also available online from luisa via roma.

for tonight's halloween themed x-factor UK live show 4, mentor to the boys category gary barlow wore an all black ensemble, thankfully with a little bit of bling from the maison martin margiela spring summer 2012 jacket, and the tie tack from london based jewellery signer andrew bunney.

love that silk/satin lapel, it gave a really nice sheen and looked really good on tv. his stylist added a sterling silver tie tack to match the buttons on the margiela jacket, which was a good touch. and nice to see gary getting first dibs on next season's margiela.

you might remember bunney as he did a special shoe horn with mr. hare a while back. the sterling silver tie tack from bunney is also available online from oki-ni.com.

china actor huang xiaoming [黄晓明] was pictured at an event on thursday in hong kong, dressed head to toe in burberry prorsum fall winter 2011. the blazer featured a mink collar, and xiaoming did not wear anything underneath the jacket, similar to the runway model.

do you like the look? i would prefer that it was styled with a t-shirt underneath, or that he wears the long coat version with similar fur collar. any thoughts?

Giuseppe Zanotti first menswear collection

italian designer giuseppe zanotti this week launched his first menswear collection. it's a small collection of trainers and slip ons, my favourite being the above beautiful velvet loafers. zanotti recently collaborated with kanye west and designed the latter's spring 2012 collection in paris. great to see shoe designers launching small capsule collections for the guys.

Christopher Bailey in New York in Burberry Prorsum

i've longed to see burberry's christopher bailey in a burberry prorsum runway piece, and my wish just got one step closer. burberry's chief creative officer was in new york this week for a series of promotional events. opting out of his usual black blazer and trousers, christopher wore the blue tweed colored speckled jacket from burberry prorsum pre-fall 2011 when he hosted an event at the brand's 57th street store. i love the jacket and he looked really good in that. you might recall ryan gosling wearing the same jacket to the toronto film festival a month ago. much as i love ryan gosling, i prefer christopher bailey in this jacket.

Sam in Mr. Hare King Tubby

dropped by j.lindeberg yesterday to have a look at their spring summer 2012 collection. took some pics, will share on here soon. but first, here's a look at sam in mr. hare's blue suede king tubby shoes! love the white trousers and blue socks to match the shoes, very dapper.

i took the above pic in september 2009 at the white cube gallery, seems like ages now. the shoes still look lovely two years down the line.

dropped by mr. hare's spring summer 2012 press day yesterday. can't post anything until nearer the time the shoes reach stores, but if you search hard enough you might find a twitpic somewhere...

and when i was there, mr. hare's glamorous assistant wore a pair of "hannibal" boots from the current fall winter 2011 collection. i always thought the shoes looked a little chunky, but seeing it on james changed my mind. a simple pair of rolled up denims showcased the shoes perfectly.

fresh from appearing on sunday night's x-factor UK in balenciaga, professor green appeared on tuesday's "later with jools holland" show in the piece that everyone wanted from givenchy fall winter 2011: the bulldog sweater. i think it has sold out in most of the online and brick and mortar stores. tried to do a screen grab but pics didn't turn out good. why not let you click on the video, i love the new single "read about it", featuring emelie sande.

Behind the scenes of Christian Louboutin's 20th Anniversary book "Les 20 Ans" featuring Mika

october 26th 2011 sees the release of the film "les 20 ans" in celebration of the arrival of christian louboutin's 20th anniversary book. the short film takes the viewer on a journey inside the book, exploring a selection of the spectacular photographs found within its pages, each one created in a special collaboration between monsieur louboutin and some of his closest friends.

the above is a very special clip featuring lebanese singer mika. this blog featured mika and his amazing louboutin shoes on many occasions, so it is very nice to see mika being featured in this "behind the scenes" video. several pairs of christian louboutin men's shoes were featured in the clip, including the namesake "mikaraja".

marvin humes from UK band "JLS" was pictured outside nobu this week in london, alongside girlfriend rochelle wiseman from fellow UK band "the saturdays". marvin wore a signature vivienne westwood white shirt, with the "waistcoat and blazer in one" suit from vivienne westwood fall winter 2011. i love the styling from the runway, not sure how marvin managed to make it look so bridal. it's not a complete disaster: if he buttoned up the shirt, do his waistcoat properly and wear a proper pair of lace-ups, it could have been a dapper look.

british rapper professor green performed with emeli sandé on sunday's x-factor UK show. the duo performed the very infectious new single "read all about it". when professor green appeared on stage, my eyes literally lit up, "is he really wearing balenciaga?". as a big balenciaga fan, i thought i recognised that jacket.

professor green or his stylist seemed to favour shearling pieces. for last week's bbc teen awards, professor green wore a shearling jacket from maison martin margiela. for sunday night's x-factor UK performance, he wore the suede and shearling jacket from balenciaga fall winter 2011.

on sunday night's x-factor UK results show, gary barlow wore a navy three piece suit from roberto cavalli. not a major departure from last night's tom ford attire, he kept the same tie bar underneath the tie knot too. i wished gary wore the plum colored suit on the right, i think it would look really good on him.

when the stage doors opened for tonight's x-factor UK show, the first thing i noticed was the tie bar right below the knot of his tie. the first thing that came to mind was tom ford. then i saw the gargantuan lapels, another signature of tom ford, i was pretty certain gary barlow wore tom ford for the show.

the suit was immaculately cut, i hate to think it's off the rack as it looked like it's cut for him. love the pocket square too, subtle but to the point. perfection for me from gary barlow.

joe jonas's stylist continues to pick rather interesting pieces for the singer's european promotional tour. joe jonas wore an alexander mcqueen bomber jacket during the bbc teen awards in london two weeks ago, and on thursday he was in paris for his solo album promotions in an embroidered jacket from dries van noten fall winter 2011. i'm not exactly feeling it on joe, something doesn't feel right. not sure if it's the fit or the embroidered sleeves.

joe's jacket appeared to be a hybrid of the above two. dries van noten fall winter 2011 featured several pieces with really beautiful embroidery. i much preferred the jacket on the left with the golden embroidery around the collar and back. i saw that jacket at harvey nichols in london today and there was only one piece left, natually not in my size. beautiful jacket, and says a lot when a jacket is out of sizes even before november in this economic climate.

Versace for H&M

it was announced back in june that versace will be the next design house to collaborate with h&m. today is the day where official campaign and lookbook images were made available. from the reactions i gathered so far, this is the marmite of collaborations: you either love it or hate it. believe it or not, i actually rather like it. i love the campaign image above, striking and the prints look amazing on screen. however, i find that is also the issue for most people: the pieces look great in campaign images but it will be difficult to translate to everyday looks.

i am a little confused too. in previously leaked images, the collaboration is branded as "the very best of versace for h&m", now it's simply "versace for h&m". "the very best of", because donatella versace mentioned that she wanted to bring iconic versace pieces to this collaboration. revisiting the archives, where gianni versace made famous so many of the flashy prints in the 80s and 90s, donatella versace produced several pieces in this collection which are also loud and seemingly from the same era.

i don't think this is one of the easily wearable h&m collaborations (together with comme des garcons). you can find the complete collection on other sites (complete with palm trees and sea creatures), but here are my personal favourites and most probable buys:

not surprisingly, i've gone for the least wild pieces. the suits in h&m's collaborations are usually pretty well cut, and i love the collar/lapel of the blazer. however, this is rather similar to the suit from lanvin x h&m last year, which i bought. the versace x h&m blazer is £99.99, and the trousers are £39.99.

the bomber jacket with the iconic prints sleeve is a little of a questionable taste, but i reckon i could make it work. just keep the bottom simple i guess, i think it's a really fun piece. shirts from h&m's collaborations are usually pretty good, i'm likely to get the blue shirt with collar tipped details. the jacket retails for £79.99 and the shirt for £29.99.

another piece i am very very keen on, is the above studded leather jacket. not sure why i cannot find a reasonable high spec still life picture. the jacket is actually my favourite piece from the entire collection. it looks great on screen, but the quality of the jacket remains to be seen on that day. the leather jacket retails for £199.99.

the collection will be in stores from thursday 17th november 2011 (UK). needless to say i've already taken a day off work for that. are you excited about this collection?

Swizz Beatz at 'The Mountaintop' Broadway opening night in 3.1 Phillip Lim

alicia keys and swizz beatz were pictured in new york city last week at "the mountaintop" broadway opening night. swizz beatz wore a khaki colored peacoat with black leather sleeves from 3.1 phillip lim fall winter 2011. i love the play of textures, combining the wool body with leather sleeves, and especially loving the braided detailings on the leather.

if i could remove one item from swizz beatz, it will be his tie. i feel it's one item too much. i do like his khaki coat subtly matching alicia key's green blazer. what do you think?

Common Projects Achilles Sneakers

it wouldn't be a complete shopping experience if i did not get any shoes would it? together with the mismo bag, i got myself a pair of common projects achilles sneakers. i've featured these numerous times on the blog, alexander skarsgard is a fan, i decided i will be too.

needless to say, my favourite feature has to be their signature gold stamped numerals on the side of the shoes. the common projects achilles sneakers are also available online from studiohomme.

Mismo M/S Soft Work Bag

treated myself to a new mismo bag last week. i love mismo's bags, very clever in combining lightweight and practical canvas, with stylish and durable leatherware. i love the gorgeous navy blue canvas against the handsome tann leather. best of all, it's the perfect size for work. used it for a week already, and i must say i received a few approving nods!

3.1 Phillip Lim Menswear Spring Summer 2012

when i was in new york three weeks ago, i visited the 3.1 phillip lim showroom. i love the spring summer 2012 lookbook shots, and wanted to have a closer look at the collection. my favourite piece has to be the above biker jacket. this is a classic and recurring piece from the phillip lim collection, you might remember ryan gosling and hidetoshi nakata [中田英寿] wearing it on several occasions.

for spring summer 2012, the jacket will be made in really soft and smooshy lamb's leather. the added twist will be the detachable sleeves so the jacket becomes a vest, 2 looks in 1. i really like that, makes that investment piece goes further isn't it?

there's also a belt which hangs nonchalantly, adding to the laidback feel. definitely high on my wishlist, and can't help feeling very jealous when i saw another guy in the showroom with this jacket in brown from spring summer 2011.

i also love the above shirt with pleated detailings on the front...



especially loving the frilly seemingly unfinished edges.

i love the softness and delicacy, and the little tiny details.


speaking about softness, i like this lightweight top...


the details on the sleeves are pretty cool.

the two tone fading ombre trend is featured on several pieces from their spring summer 2012 collection. i love the above shirt, worn with jeans it creates a really nice fading effect.

there's also the denim jacket with zipped up sides...

and trousers with the dipped effect on the bottom. i like the trousers, i thought it's pretty cool. phillip lim himself took his bow after his spring summer 2012 womenswear show in a similar reverse ombre pair.

little details matter. i love their discreet branding on their buttons.

this denim vest is technically from the spring summer 2012 womenswear collection, but it's pretty oversized, can you tell? the rather amazing thing, is that the vest transform into a bag. definitely brings back childhood memories of the transformers series.

there are a series of strings and straps hidden within the vest, and a little tug and pull transforms the vest into...

a pretty cool bag. great for travelling, one piece dual purposes. great piece, and you totally cannot tell from the runway presentation. amazing. i love this collection, hope the buyers in london will pick up these beautiful pieces. 3.1 phillip lim is also available online from my-wardrobe.com.
